I love baseball, I do not live and die with the Toronto Blue Jays or anyone else for that matter, I
will admit to having a few hats and a bit of clothing with a Yankee logo on it but I am a fan of the game
more than anything.
This is the week of the month that I usually detail about a book of my own that I am working on,
but today’s offering is more about a change in plans. This was the week that I and a friend were going to
spend 8 days on the road and go to 8 ball games in the Mid West League. That is a low level A league in
Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin that has 8 teams in the Western Division and we would have visited each
park. The result would be a photo book recording our journey and of course the hot dogs and local brews
offered in each park.
I had done the preliminary work last year visiting the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers home park and I
loved it. Small park with some character and your close to the game, the best seat in the house is 15
bucks. The gift shops has more t-shirts and hats than anyone could ever need.
They have a Mexican persona for 3 nights of the year and more marketing stunts than Walt
Disney but I am sure you get the idea, all this with young men who play their hearts out because they
have a chance at the Big Leagues, in most cases they are 8 steps away but they still believe.
That was the plan it was going to be a book that we could look at later and relive the memories,
yes, it was to be called Horsehide, Hot dogs, and Hops. If I have to explain that to you – I can’t.
Life has changed and earlier I thought we might go next year, but that is not going to happen,
maybe in 2022. I will need some new t-shirts and hats by then, and baseball has been through some tough
times before and come back…I will be there when it does.
Do you want to come with me?
