What a Great Email

I get the nicest emails, sure I get my share of trash and spam and what ever else we care to call it
but every once I while an email comes along that makes it all worth while, and this one was for a request.
Sami Jo Small sent me a note last week, asking for my mailing address – she is about to release her book
and asked for my address to send my copy. That is a very nice gesture from a very classy lady.

Sami Jo and I worked together on her book a while ago, and she is now releasing it and that
brought back a flood of memories.

I remember asking her what she wanted he book to be like, the reply was ready.

“Like Ken Dryden’s, The Game. I would like it to be like that.” she said. I did some research and
found The Game had been judged the best hockey book of all time by the Hockey News. So that seemed
like a logical goal. That is typical of the standards this lady sets for herself, she expects to do well.
I remember her asking if she had spend to much time describing the opening ceremonies of the
Olympic Games. I assured her that none of my friends had stories from the Olympics much less multiple
games and she was fine sharing a few highlights. She was a pleasure to work with.

She did the majority of her first draft is just about a month, it was between hockey camps and the
start of the season so she attacked the project with a vigor, that is Sami Jo.

It was great to work with Sami Jo on her book but that email also made think oh how fortunate I
have been to hear the stories from more than a half dozen Olympians and help them decide which ones
will make their book. It is a pleasure.

In keeping with the atitude of the day, I should send a thank you to the lady that introduced us,
Thanks – Jen.
